Asif Ali and Biju Menon in Thalavan
Thalavan debuted on theatres this past Friday (May 24). Even though the movie did not draw in a massive crowd in every theatre on opening day, word-of-mouth and positive reviews helped it gradually gain traction. The Jis Joy-directed investigative thriller has captured the interest of viewers and is making a respectable box office haul, albeit not as much as some of the other Malayalam films that have been released this year.
The Sacnilk website states that on day 7, Thalavan earned Rs 5.84 crores, bringing the total office collection to Rs 6.85 crores worldwide. The movie has made 1.75 crores of rupees in overseas revenue. These numbers highlight the movie's wide appeal and sturdy commercial presence. Actors Asif Ali and Biju Menon, however, are finding box office success with this crime drama following a long hiatus.
In the meantime, the box office total for Mammootty's Turbo, which debuted one day before Thalavan, has already surpassed the 50 crore mark in just five days. In a similar vein, in the week following its release, Prithviraj Sukumaran's Guruvayoorambala Nadayil brought in more than Rs 50 crore in revenue.

The ensemble cast of Thalavan includes Anusree, Dileesh Pothan, and Miya George. The movie explores a fascinating investigation at a neighbourhood police station, emphasising the ego conflicts and intricate hierarchy that occur in law enforcement. Viewers have been drawn to the theme of rivalries and conflict over power within the police department, which gives the crime thriller genre more nuance.
One can enjoy watching a great investigative thriller in Jis Joy's film thanks to its captivating storyline and stellar acting. Asif Ali and Biju Menon both perform as police officers in a way that meets and exceeds public expectations. The fact that the filmmakers of Thalavan left a few subplots unresolved suggests that there may be room for a sequel.
