Vijay, who was last seen in Leo, announced that his party will be called Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam
For Tamil film industry, February started with a big announcement with one of its top stars, actor Vijay, floating his political party officially. Vijay, who was last seen in Leo, announced that his party will be called Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam.
While this was no surprise, given the speculations of him entering the politics have been doing rounds quite sometime now, the film fraternity took to social media to share their support to Vijay in his new endeavour.
Having enjoyed a massive stardom, it is no surprise that Vijay’s announcement met with a thunderous cheer and extended support from the members of the film fraternity. While a few did mention that they will miss seeing Vijay onscreen more, celebrities also took to their handles on X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Vijay.
Actor and politician Khushbu Sundar wrote, "Most awaited moment. Congratulations my brother. Wishing you a great success and May you always be blessed to give your best. May you continue to serve the people with your goodness and empathy. Wishing you the very best."
Music composer Anirudh Ravichander who has worked in Leo, Master, Kaththi, and Beast, to name a few, congratulated the actor for his political plunge. Actor Kavin who worked as assistant director in Beast and the film's director Nelson Dilipkumar also wished Vijay their best.
Actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj who worked with Vijay in Master, wrote, “Wishing you only the best anna I wish you achieve great heights and do ur best of what you intend to do for TN as a leader. A warm welcome.” See other reactions below.
Vijay released a three-page statement on starting his own party which revealed that it will be contesting the 2026 Assembly elections, while crediting Vijay as the party president. However, it is not revealed if Vijay will contest the elections.
In the statement released by the party, it said, “Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been conducting social welfare activities for several years now. However, to bring a change in the society cannot be brought by a fan club alone, for which a political presence is required. As you all know the political situation now, which is riddled with corruption and malpractices in the administration on one side, while on the other is divisive politics based on caste and religion, hindering people’s development.”
The actor was last seen in Leo under Lokesh Kanagaraj’s direction. He will be next seen in GOAT-Greatest of All Time, directed by Venkat Prabhu. The makers had released the posters for the film, suggesting that the actor would appear in two roles, one young and one old. With the actor entering politics, one needs to wait and see if Vijay will continue acting in films or resign himself to a full-fledged political life.
