The Sri Prawin Kumar directorial, produced by People Media Factory, starred Navdeep, Bindu Madhavi in the lead
Newsense, the latest Telugu show on aha, is an official digital blockbuster. Thanks to a provocative promotional campaign run by the streaming platform questioning ethics in journalism, the show starring Navdeep, Bindu Madhavi, produced by People Media Factory, the makers of Dhamaka, Karthikeya 2, hogged the limelight much before its release.
The Sri Prawin Kumar directorial was widely promoted across Telugu states, with posters, team interactions and this was complemented by the quality content when it eventually landed on the streaming platform last weekend. The fact that the show was co-written by Priyadarshini Ram, a prominent media personality helped the authenticity of its setting and to showcase the inner workings of media in small-towns in greater detail.
In terms of fiction content on aha, Newsense is already the most watched show on the platform in 2023. Even in terms of viewership, the platform claims that in terms of translation ratio, the user who has watched the first episode of the show has more or less completed all of its episodes at once - a rare feat for a title on aha. In addition, the glowing reviews and the social media feedback have contributed to its popularity.
Amidst the positive reception for the show, a section of the media wasn’t particularly happy with the portrayal of grassroots journalism in Newsense and felt there was an attempt to paint the fraternity in a poor light. In a press meet organised earlier this week, the makers shared that the show was originally written keeping 26 episodes in mind.
“If you watch the show across multiple seasons, you’ll understand that there’s attempt to downplay the impact of media. The other seasons will change that perception. Ultimately it’s a fictional show that’s restricted to a small village in a particular timeline and even those who’ve liked the first season have connected with the journey of an individual,” the writer Priyadarshini Ram shared.
