Aamir Khan is set to return to the big screen after four years with Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar is looking to bounce back from back to back box office duds with Raksha Bandhan. The two movies will clash at the box office on August 11 and both the movies have begun their advance bookings.
Laal Singh Chaddha, which is one of the most-anticipated movies of the year, comes with a lot of expectations attached to it. An adaptation of the 1994 classic, Forrest Gump, the movie has already sold over 95,000 tickets in the big cinema chains such as PVR, INOX and Cinepolis. Mounted on a reported budget of Rs. 180 crore, these numbers indicate that the movie has already done a business of Rs 11.5 crore, which is a good sign for the makers.
Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan on the other hand, is currently behind Laal Singh Chaddha in terms of pre-release business. The movie has only sold around 50,000 tickets according to a report by The Indian Express. This means that the family drama has made around Rs. 4.5 crores ahead of its release.
While Raksha Bandhan is reportedly releasing in more screens than Laal Singh Chaddha, the latter could still have the upper hand because the movie marks Aamir’s return to the big screens after a while.
Laal Singh Chaddha, which is helmed by Advait Chandan, the movie also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in important roles.
Raksha Bandhan is directed by Aanand. L. Rai and the movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna in pivotal roles.
