The producer fears that Kaushik Ganguly’s Ardhangini may get affected
The trend of Bengali films getting ousted because of big Bollywood releases is not new. Complaints and appeals did not resolve the issue. Before the release of Adipurush, producer Rana Sarkar is fearing the same. Ardhangini was released on June 2. The film, directed by Koushik Ganguly, is a crowd-puller in its second week and has been critically appreciated. However, Rana fears that Ardhangini will not get enough halls when Adipurush is released next Friday. Hence, he asked the Bengalis to stand by Bengali cinema.
Rana wrote on Facebook on Sunday, 'Bengalis, please protest and resist. Otherwise, Koushik Ganguly's film Ardhangini will be removed from the halls. A big-budget film, Adipurush, is being released next Friday. Hence Ardhangini will be removed. The same thing happened when Pathaan was released. Ardhangini is praised as a good Bengali film. The media review is good and the halls are full even in the second week. Still, it will be replaced by an outside film.”
He further added, “We, the film industry people, are selfish. We are not vocal unless we are affected. The same will perhaps happen this time. No one except the sufferer will be vocal. But why should Bengali cinema lovers be silent? If you do not protest, you will be deprived of good Bengali films in the future. Please be vocal so that not a single show of Ardhangini can be reduced next week.”
When Pathaan was released, Koushik Ganguly's film Kaberi Antardhan met the same fate. The film did not get halls at that time. Koushik alleged that the Mumbai distributors usurped all the slots, as Bengali cinema suffered. “The administration should take steps,” he said. Dev’s hit film Projapati was also ousted at that time.
