Army of the Dead 2 aka Planet of the Dead, might be a horror-packed science fiction movie, hinted the director, Zack Snyder. Starring Dave Bautusta, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Matthias Schweighofer and Nora Arnezeder, Snyder debuted Army of the Dead this May on Netflix.

Following the story of a zombie outbreak, the movie marks to be the first of many films which are set within its universe. Army of Thieves, which was just released on Netflix is one of them, which is now grossing at number one position. In addition to this, the director has already revealed about a prequel animation show called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas which will be helmed by Oliva.

In a recent interaction with Variety, Snyder opened up further insights about Army of the Dead 2 and said it would contain a genre mash-up model. Considering the first film a genre mix with as well, the sequel is expected to be of a sci-fi, packed in elements of horror.

While tracking the first instalment of the universe, one can see how well the zombie genre has been mixed up with action and heist, pulling several inspirations including movies like Escape From New York and Aliens. This is a fine reason to expect his next to be outstanding, as Snyder seems to like retaining the heist aspect which is present in both Army of Thieves and Army of the Dead.

However, the director also hinted at his plans to go forward with the genre mash-up in terms of the going forward of the franchise too. He said that they are very much ‘self aware’ about the audiences and filmmakers who are educated enough to appreciate what he is going to offer.
