Arjun Kapoor made his acting debut with Ishaqzaade, which was produced by Aditya Chopra.
Arjun Kapoor, who has been in the industry for over 10 years now, is celebrating his 37th birthday today. The actor revealed in a recent interview that he was rejected by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films after the producer saw the actor’s photos.
Talking to Bollywood Hungama, Arjun Kapoor said that he knew he did not want to start his career in his father Boney Kapoor’s movie because it would be the easy way out and that it would not test him to the optimum.
"So I went for the audition. Aditya Chopra sir saw my photos and said, 'yeh toh actor nahin ban sakta, isko hum supporting (mein le sakte hain) he can’t be a main lead.' He was not impressed with my photos," he said, about how he faced rejection early on.
He then talked about how casting director Shanoo Sharma filmed an audition tape of him for a film that was never made. Chopra later saw this video and said that he is not a one-dimensional actor and later, signed him up for his debut movie Ishaqzaade.
Kapoor made his debut in the 2012 romantic drama Ishaqzaade, starring opposite Parineeti Chopra. Backed by Yash Raj Films, the movie was directed by Habib Faisal and received good reviews, following its release.
The actor has since been part of around 15 movies including Gunday, 2 States, Half Girlfriend and Sardar Ka Grandson. The actor was last seen in the horror comedy, Bhoot Police, co-starring Saif Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam Dhar.
The actor is currently working on Kuttey, which marks the directorial debut of Vishal Bhardwaj’s son, Aasmaan Bhardwaj. The movie also features Konkona Sen Sharma, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu and Radhika Madan.
