AR Murugadoss, whose 2020 film Darbar was released in theatres, is eager to continue the success of one of his biggest box office hits, Ghajini.

According to what we heard, Murugadoss has been considering making a Tamil sequel to the original film, which featured Suriya. It would be interesting to see what this has in store for the viewers, even if neither party has confirmed anything.

Readers are likely aware that the Hindi version of Ghajini, which also went by the same name, had Aamir Khan in the title role and Asin in the part of Kalpana. In the Tamil version, which was released in 2005, Nayanthara played the role of Jiah Khan.

Ghajini 2, if it materialises, would be Suriya and A R Murugadoss' third collaboration, following the 2008 action thriller, and 7aum Arivu.

Suriya will reportedly play the protagonist in the Ghajini sequel as well, but it's unclear if the second film would tell a new tale or continue Sanjay Ramaswamy's. AR Murugadoss has not yet made any announcements on his upcoming film, though.

For those who are unaware, Ghajini tells the story of a phone owner who meets a cheery but failing actress with a kind heart. He begins to fall in love with her and the two of them start making plans for the future when he is injured severely and develops short-term memory loss due to a perilous circumstance. He makes friends with a lively but dedicated medical student who wants to learn more about his condition.

Did you know that NIC Arts funded the first Ghajini, which starred Ajith and Asin as Mirattal? Yuvan Shankar Raja was meant to compose the soundtrack!

Later, Nayanthara was cast in the part originally intended for Shriya Saran, a medical student. Additionally, Pradeep Rawat took over for Prakash Raj as the antagonist when the lead actor changed because of scheduling conflicts.

It's interesting to note that Ghajini draws inspiration from the movies, Happy Go Lovely (1951) and Memento (2000).

Murugadoss admitted in an interview that he had pitched the Ghajini script to 12 actors but that none of them had accepted it.

When asked to remake Ghajini in Telugu, Murugadoss declined, claiming he could never capture the magic again. But he agreed to adapt it into Hindi when Aamir Khan asked him to.
