Violence and the wildness in cinema are a topic of discussion that is happening now more than ever. Whether the presence of goriness in a movie is substantial or inconsequential is being judged and called out even more. Amid this comes Apurva, a movie that looks brutal in the trailer and is a tough watch for those who cannot watch violent content. So when the team, including Tara Sutaria, Abhishek Banerjee, and director Nikhil Bhat, sat down to discuss the movie, we asked them about the same.
Nikhil, who is also credited for Kill, another violent drama that was applauded in the festival circuit recently, was asked about the wild and violent nature of his directorial Apurva which stars Tara in the titular role alongside Abhishek and Rajpal Yadav. The filmmaker spoke about how he did not tame the wildness at all and how crimes happen just by fluke, unfortunately.
In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Nikhil Bhat said, "Actually, we did not tame the wildness at all; instead, we went all out with it. To give you an example, my heart breaks when I say I am giving you an example; during the tragic Nirbhaya killing, those guys on the bus didn’t have a purpose; they just picked her up. On the run, they just picked her up.”
“So they did not have any purpose for doing that, and that is, unfortunately, the reflection of a part of our society. It has happened. And most of the crimes like that just happen on a fluke. These crimes are carried out quite easily without a purpose, motive, or plan. So it is just that power equation that I am able to solve; this is what happens. And these people, when you see the film, will get to know why I say it all just happens by fluke,” the Apurva director added.
