Anurag Kashyap talks about the dilemma of creativity and fan expectations in Bollywood.
One of Bollywood's biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan, has a huge fan base. There is no question that he is at the top of the industry right now. SRK is currently basking in the success of Atlee's most recent film, Jawan. Over time, there were a lot of requests from fans that the superstar collaborate with Anurag Kashyap on a project. Now, the filmmaker, who was recently seen in Haddi has made a strong statement regarding SRK amid this. He specifically stated that he did not wish to collaborate with King Khan, in case anyone was unaware. Anurag shared his thoughts on why working with King Khan on a movie will always be a career highlight.
Anurag Kashyap's strong statement on not collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan
During a recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Anurag remarked that Shah Rukh's persona is so enormous that it shouldn't grow on him like Bombay Velvet. The water is too deep for me to swim, and this is an extremely challenging endeavour for Anurag. This is all in one's head, and it will remain so forever; he just can't get to it.
The filmmaker further said that he has tried when asked if he has ever attempted to contact SRK. Anurag has attempted it maybe three times, but the plan fell through. That would be Shah Rukh Khan, and he is King Khan. Anurag also said that SRK has made it to the top of Bollywood, and the filmmaker's issue has nothing to do with him; the hopes of his supporters are high. Fans of Ranveer Singh also had high hopes. These celebrities have built-in fan bases, and it is those fan bases—not the stars themselves—that he holds sacred.
Anurag Kashyap's commitment to doing something different
Following this, Anurag said that he has always strived to do something different. The larger one's fan following, the less eager its members are to see them try something fresh. Anurag doesn't want to be the one who cancels before they do. That's why he avoids it as much as possible.
