The director was in Kolkata for a special screening of the film
Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa was released on August 19. Despite good reviews, the Taapsee Pannu-starrer thriller has been struggling to make an impact at the box office. Meanwhile, the actress, Pavail Gulati and Ektaa Kapoor came to Kolkata for a promotional tour. Taapsee and Pavail also visited Kalighat Temple on the day of release. Meanwhile, Anurag attended a special screening of Dobaaraa that was hosted by Prosenjit Chatterjee.
In an interview with Anandabazar, the director talked about his equation with Taapsee. Anurag said, “Taapsee Pannu trusts me completely as a director. That is very important. She is also a straight shooter. She sees life simply. She questions straightforwardly. She comes on set without any insecurities – something that is common among many established actors.”
In a recent interview, Anurag’s comment on male actors’ ‘insecurities’ created a storm on social media. Talking about the trouble of being straightforward and making controversial statements, Anurag said, “I worked in this industry for 30 years. If my comment could land me in trouble, that would have happened by now. I have faced all the troubles that one has to face. What else will happen? The directors and producers, who make films worth Rs 150-200 cr, have greater risks. I am not in that race. My risk factor has remained the same. I will not get into any fresh trouble. I have a limited fanbase and I have no misgivings regarding myself.”
Talking about how the industry should adjust to the post-covid situation, he said, “Exhibitors, producers, directors and actors should work unitedly. There has to be an overhaul so that there is clarity in the system. We will have to seek answers to the problems. We will have to figure out how we can make films on small budgets, how to reduce the ticket price… we will have to figure out how to reduce costs.”
