Anupam Kher plays Tagore in Biswajit Chatterjee’s Agniyug: The Fire

Dharmendra, Biswajit's longtime friend, will play Lala Lajpat Rai. Madhu, the actress famous for the film Roja, is playing Captain Laxmi Sehgal.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher shared his photo in the makeup as Rabindranath Tagore a few months back on his social media account. The photo went viral. Anupam said that he would play the poet in his 538th project. Swastika Mukherjee expressed her displeasure and wrote, “Please leave Tagore”. On the other hand, many people praised the look.

At that time, Anupam Kher did not reveal anything about the project. Finally, the information about the film came out. Biswajit Chatterjee, the one-time superstar, is directing the film. The timeline of the film is before the independence struggle started.

The film’s name is Agniyug: The Fire. Biswajit told Sangbad Pratidin, “It was my longtime dream. It is more a passion than a film. I want to do something for my country. Tagore is the central character of the film. Anupam’s look’s photo was sent to Kiran (Anupam’s wife). Kiran asked why she was sent Tagore's photo. The look was so authentic that Kiran could not recognize Anupam. My wife Ira Chatterjee is producing the film.”

The Tagore song Jodi Tor Dak Sune Keu Na Ase will be in the film. Kumar Sanu sang the song. The film will be released in 2024.
