Laal Singh Chaddha was a remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 movie Forrest Gump
Anupam Kher talks about the box-office performance of Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha
Gearing up for a slew of new releases - Vidyut Jammwal-starrer IB71 Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency and Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino - legendary actor Anupam Kher has something to say about the ‘poor’ performance of Aamir Khan’s 2022 comedy drama film Laal Singh Chaddha, which also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan. An official adaptation of the Tom Hanks-starrer 1994 movie Forrest Gump, Laal Singh Chaddha was written by Atul Kulkarni and directed by Advait Chandan.
In return for its ₹180 crore budget, Laal Singh Chaddha managed to clock less than ₹90 crore globally in its first week. Sharing his views about Laal Singh Chaddha’s ‘failure at the box office’, Anupam told ANI, “Laal Singh Chadda was not a great film. If it was a great film, no power would’ve stopped it. Aamir Khan’s PK worked really well. The point is that you need to accept the truth.”
Commenting on the ‘boycott Bollywood’ trend, the actor said, “I am not for boycott trends, not at all, but you can’t stop somebody from doing what they want to do. But if your product is good, it will find its audience. In fact, they will go with a vengeance. And the only way to kill this trend is to do brilliant work.”
Laal Singh Chaddha featured Aamir in the title role, while Kareena played Rupa D’Souza Chaddha. The movie also starred Naga Chaitanya (marking his Hindi film debut) and Mona Singh. Shah Rukh Khan made a cameo appearance in the movie. The original film (Forrest Gump) was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth. It was inspired by Winston Groom’s 1986 novel of the same name.
