Stepping into the shoes of director Mrinal Sen, portrayed as Kunal Sen, Anjan Dutt delivers a stellar performance, while debutant Sawon Chakraborty breathes life into the character of young Anjan Dutt, playing Ranjan Dutt. Bidipta Chakraborty plays the character of the director’s wife, adding depth to the narrative.
Talking about the film, Anjan Dutt said, “Mrinal Sen’s impact on Indian cinema is immeasurable. He didn’t just make films, he reshaped narratives, challenged conventions, and inspired generations of filmmakers. Chaalchitra Ekhon not only pays homage to Sen's cinematic brilliance but also seeks to ignite a new wave of appreciation for his enduring legacy.”
At its core, the film celebrates the dynamic relationship between mentor and disciple, embodied by Kunal and Ranjan. Through their collaborative journey on an ambitious film project, they confront inner demons, and societal pressures, and ultimately find solace in Kolkata's rich cultural tapestry, accentuated by the musical compositions of Neel Dutt.
