Today, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal – which minted over Rs 500 crores at the theatres globally, arrived on Netflix. Here is how social media users reacted to it.
Animal is now available on Netflix.
Recently, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga claimed that his recent theatrical Animal would be released on Netflix with an extended runtime. The 42-year-old filmmaker additionally mentioned that the online version would be approximately 8 minutes longer than its theatrical counterpart. Today, however, it turns out that his claims are not true. The crime thriller has been released on Netflix today and it turns out that the online version is just 3 minutes longer than the theatrical.
We know that the theatrical version of Animal was 3 hours and 21 minutes long. However, as claimed before, the OTT version of the film is not extended by 8 minutes. Many social media users feel that the film is barely extended by a minute or two – which is almost insignificant.
Additionally, social media users noticed how the OTT platform exercised caution while showcasing the film on it. One microblogging site X user observed, “This OTT platform has not shown Ranbir Kapoor smoking a cigarette on the poster. What else can you expect in the film...!”
“There is no extended cut in the film. Why did Sandeep give fake promises?” said another X user.
“Animal’s OTT version is a joke. Can’t find anything extra in it,” added another X user.
“We know Censor Board made cuts in the film. But can’t we see it on OTT?” said one more X user.
Animal is an action-packed drama film directed and edited by Sandeep Reddy Vanga who co-wrote the screenplay alongside Pranay Reddy Vanga and Saurabh Gupta. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Krishan Kumar, and Murad Khetani under T-Series Films, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1 Studios, the movie features a stellar cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Shakti Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Siddhant Karnick, Babloo Prithviraj, and Saurabh Sachdeva. Initially slated for an August 2023 release, the film faced a postponement due to post-production requirements.
Animal hit theaters on December 1, 2023, and achieved remarkable success, grossing ₹900 crore worldwide. The film set numerous box office records for a Hindi film, both in domestic and international markets, marking it as the highest-grossing film in Ranbir Kapoor's career. A sequel, titled Animal Park, is currently in development.
