On Friday, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial ‘Animal’ hit the theatres with a bang! Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Anil Kapoor in the lead roles, this movie has minted over Rs 100 crores globally in just 24 hours of its release. While Bollywood lovers continue to throng the theatres, a section of social media users feel that Sandeep is promoting misogyny in the film.

For those who don’t understand, misogyny means hatred or prejudice against women, typically exhibited by men. According to Britannica, it is generally accepted that misogyny is a consequence of patriarchy (male-dominated society), and the term may be applied to certain individuals as well as larger systems, societies, or cultures.

Social media users slam Sandeep Reddy Vanga

One X (formerly known as Twitter) user said, “Everyone associated with #Animal must self-introspect, and question themselves. Everyone associated with #Animal must send them to therapy and also stay away from them for at least six months after they start seeing a therapist. Vile isn't daring. Walked out.”

“Haven't seen 'Kabir Singh', so wasn't sure what to expect from this one. There's indeed a lot of acting talent on display in #Animal. But no amount of talent can cover up the fact that all of these people came together to celebrate misogyny simply because it's profitable,” added the X user.

Another X user said, “Listen, if you’re still going to go watch Animal after seeing the trailer and reading the reviews, then just accept that you are entertained by content that is steeped in misogyny, violence, and trauma. Also, accept that you’re filling pockets of people who glorify it.”

One more X user said, “I pity the women in all Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films. I can’t believe people like Animal.”

“It is so easy to sell violence fuelled by misogyny. Rubbish this film is” wrote another X user.

However, this is not the first time that Sandeep Reddy Vanga has faced criticism for promoting sheer hatred against women in the film. Movies namely ‘Varmaa’, ‘Arjun Reddy’, ‘Kabir Singh’ also promoted the same ideology.

Only time will tell how the social media hatred towards Vanga’s films transpires in the future ahead.
