Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain
Directed by the late actor-director Satish Kaushik, this heart-touching romantic drama, starring Kajol and Anil Kapoor as the lead pair tells the story of a girl, Megha, who enters into a loveless contractual marriage with her boss, business tycoon Vijay. When they part a year later, as friends, Megha has unresolved feelings for Vijay, whom she nursed back to health from a planned accident by his rivals, but the latter realizes his folly much later. A film focusing on the nuances of a romance that was considered doomed by most, Anil Kapoor is versatile and sprightly in his portrayal of Vijay.
The film is available on YouTube and Prime Video.
Rishtey
This 2002 drama, starring Karishma Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, and Amrish Puri, was directed by Indra Kumar. The film showcases the classic ‘00s trope of ‘poor boy falls for rich family’s daughter, and they fight the world to end up together.’ Here, however, the real problem starts post marriage, with Komal’s (Karishma Kapoor) family doing everything in their power to separate them. Being estranged from one another, a heartbroken Suraj (Anil Kapoor) does a wonderful job portraying a resilient heartbroken husband as well as a doting, single father.
The film is available on Prime Video.
Nayak: The Real Hero
Considered by many his career best, Nayak focused on the story of an ordinary man, a tv news reporter becoming the CM of Maharashtra for a day and significantly altering its criminal-pockmarked face within that short period. This furthers the plot, by inviting various dangers into protagonist Shivaji’s life, who wishes to lead a simple, honest life. However, even if he deserts politics, politics will not leave in peace the man who can rejuvenate it. From howling at the loss of his parents to finally playing the political game with a guilty conscience for the right reasons, Anil Kapoor can be gazed at over and over again in this cult classic.
The film is available to stream on Xstream Play.
Yuvraaj
Despite being a box office bomb, this film sports some iconic performances by Salman Khan as well as Anil Kapoor. Both the actors are brothers, the former being a charming, struggling musician and the latter being a sweet, mentally challenged musical prodigy. Essaying the character of eldest brother Gyanesh, who is the ‘Yuvraaj’ to the Singh family property, Salman Khan’s Deven and Zayed Khan’s Danny attempt to con their brother out of his will, but eventually end up adoring him and reuniting happily. Anil Kapoor’s portrayal of a differently abled individual with the innocence of a child is astonishing and ensnaring.
The film is currently streaming on Zee5.
The Night Manager
Delivering one of his career bests in this super hit OTT series, Anil Kapoor steals the show with his performance of international arms dealer cum business tycoon Shailendra ‘Shelly’ Ahuja. Accompanied by outstanding performances of Aditya Roy Kapoor, Saswata Chatterjee, Tillotama Shome, and Sobhita Dhulipala, the show’s taut plot and thrilling scenes make the show bingeworthy. Tracing the story of undercover Indian agent cum ‘Night Manager’ Shaan, who is also ex-Navy, as he attempts to infiltrate the business empire of Shelly by gaining his trust, the series shows the extent to which man can dip and rise for power, love, and revenge.
