The trailer for the Anubhav Sinha directorial was dropped online days after the controversy over the Hindi language was stirred up between Ajay Devgn and Kiccha Sudeepa.
Only days after Ajay Devgn caused a stir by reacting to Kiccha Sudeep's statement about Hindi no longer being a "national language," Ayushmann Khurrana unveiled the trailer for his geo-political film Anek which has somehow leapt into the existing controversy.
In a brief segment of the trailer, Ayushmann is seen speaking with JD Chakravarthy, a Telangana native, in a brief segment. The Vicky Donor actor asks the Satya actor why he thinks of him as a North Indian in the video. "So Hindi decides who is from the North and who is from the South," Ayushmann responds when the man claims it's probably because his Hindi is pure. "So, it's not about Hindi, either!" he exclaims as the man says no.
Many internet users were taken aback by the scene. "For most Twitter users, 7 seconds of the Anek trailer should be a daily reminder," one user tweeted.
Anek is a film directed by Anubhav Sinha that focuses on the brutality and injustice that the people of North East India face. And Ayushmann has taken on the role of an undercover cop on a mission to help two opposing groups in the region reach an amicable agreement.
Ayushmann spoke further on Anek saying that the film honours the ethos of being a true Indian. With this film, Anubhav Sinha is pushing the envelope and setting a new standard with his impassioned storytelling. Joshua, his character, forced him to accomplish things he had never done before, both physically and psychologically. With the necessary coaching and training, Ayushmann gave this character his all to bring Anubhav's vision for the film to life.
Set against the geopolitical backdrop of Northeast India, this is the unsung narrative of an undercover detective. An insurrection, or uprising, is the subject of this action-thriller. An Indian who only wants the country to be at peace. Anek which will be released on May 27, also stars Danny Danzongpa and Manoj Pahwa.
