And Just Like That: Cynthia Nixon says she was hesitant to return to SATC reboot

With her cool reasoning and fierce loyalty, Miranda Hobbes is an indelible part of Sex and the City. So it would come as a shock that Cynthia Nixon, who essays the role, wasn’t very keen on returning for the revival series And Just Like That.

In a conversation with Herald Sun, the actress revealed that she had been hesitant in reprising her role in the revival, almost making up her mind to not return.

She stated the main reason for her disinterest as being the lack of diversity on the original series. The actress talked about how she had voiced her concerns over the same to the new show’s writers, who surprisingly agreed with her. Nixon recounted how the makers had worked hard to allay her concerns, adding new cast members and reworking the story.

The actress also talked in length about the impact Sex and the City had had on her career, and how the series had become a cultural phenomenon. Her sentiments were echoed by co-star Kristin Davis, who portrays Charlotte York Goldenblatt. Davis remarked how grateful she was for the show for providing her with stability in her career, calling it the ‘gift that keeps on giving’.

And Just Like That is set 11 years after the events of Sex and the City 2, and follows Miranda, Carrie and Charlotte as they try to navigate their ever changing lives in New York City.

Nixon,Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker reprise their roles from Sex and the City. Kim Cattrall, who starred in the original series as Samantha, does not return for the revival. New cast members include Sara Ramirez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman and Isaac Cole Powell.

The show premiered on HBO Max recently.
