Anbe Sivam, Pudhupettai to Love Today: Tamil films lined up for re-release this weekend

With Kamal Haasan's birthday coming, many films of the legendary actor are in the pipeline for re-release

It looks like the season of re-releases in Tamil Nadu. After the re-release of films like Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu, Baashhaa and Baba, more films are lined up to hit screens years after their release.

A slew of Ulaganayagan films in the fray
With the birthday of Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan just four days away (November 7), a number of films of the legendary actor are in the pipeline for a re-release. There is a buzz that Nayakan, which was one of the cult films in the actor's career, is likely to hit screens on his birthday. His iconic Pesum Padam, a silent dark comedy by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is also gearing up for re-release.

Anbe Sivam


Kamal Haasan's Anbe Sivam, directed by Sundar C is considered an important film in the annals of Tamil cinema, as it touches upon communism, altruism, atheism, socialism, globalisation to name a few. Kamal Haasan's character in the film was inspired by Communist playwright, actor, director, lyricist and street play artiste Safdar Hashmi. Though Anbe Sivam, failed to set the cash registers ringing, tje film became one of the most rewatched films on television and attained a cult status.

Pudhupettai


Selvaraghavan's crime action entertainer follows the story of a slum-dwelling youngster from Pudhupettai, who goes on to become a dreaded gangster in North Chennai. The film features Dhanush, Sonia Agarwal and Sneha in the lead. Dhanush's character Kokki Kumar became quite popular among the youth. Music for the film was by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the album went on to become a chartbuster as the film became a hit.

Love Today


As Pradeep Ranganthan's romantic comedy Love Today completes one year, the film's production house re-released the film on the special occasion. The star cast includes Pradeep making his debut as an actor, Ivana, Sathyaraj, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Raveena Ravi, Yogi Babu,to name a few. AGS Entertainment wrote on its social media handle, "Thank you for your wonderful love for #LoveToday!! We are incredibly grateful to the audiences for having made it such a big hit!! Let's celebrate #1YearOfLoveToday at #AGSCinemas tomorrow! (sic)."
