Except Yash and Sudeep, every other Kannada hero will have a release in the coming months.
The new year is off to an exciting start for Kannada film audiences. After the lull caused by the pandemic, Sandalwood has been in resurgence mode and everyone, except Rocking star Yash and Kiccha Sudeep are working on projects. #Yash19 and #Kiccha46 are widely anticipated, but these are not even on floors yet, so they are unlikely to have releases this year. For the rest, though, 2023 looks good.
Starting things off is Challenging Star Darshan, whose 55thfilm Kranti releases in theatres on January 26. The actor’s next is already in production, so it would not be surprising if he manages to thrill fans with another by the end off the year. February has not been claimed by anyone yet, but March will see Upendra and Ganesh clashing at the box office. The Real Star’s underworld drama Kabzaa and the Golden Star’s rom-com Baana Daariyalli have both zeroed in on March 17, a date that is now wide open because the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar will not lay stake to it anymore for a birthday release.
Dhananjaya’s milestone 25th Hoysala has been announced as a March 30 release and it is being rumoured that Dhruva Sarja’s Martin will also be out around that time. Rakshit Shetty’s Saptha Sagaradaache Ello is nearing completion and could squeeze in for a first half of 2023 theatrical outing. Of course, Century Star Shivarajkumar’s Nee Sigovaregu is still pending and Ghost is almost done, so, he too will be in the reckoning. Not to forget Duniya Vijay’s next directorial Bheema. Roaring Star Sriimurali’s Bagheera may now settle for a second half or early 2024 outing, as the actor is nursing an injured leg and is out of action for the next three months. At some point, Upendra’s directorial UI will also be in the mix, but he is yet to announce a timeline for the release.
Going by the exciting line-up in the coming months, it would be safe to say that the high that Kannada cinema had in 2022, is unlikely to die anytime soon.
