Amy Adams’ The Woman in the Window set for Netflix release

The film, which is based on AJ Finn’s novel The Woman in the Window, headed for a reshoot due to its confusing plot.

Amy Adams' psychological thriller The Woman in the Window is finally releasing on Netflix on May 14. The digital streamer had last year announced that it acquired the rights for the film, which is based on AJ Finn’s 2018 novel of the same name.

The film revolves around Dr Anna Fox (Amy), who is dealing with an anxiety disorder called agoraphobia that causes people to fear certain environments.

Anna, who is afraid to step out of her home, starts spending her time looking out to other people’s apartments from her window. She starts spying and keeps tabs on what is happening in the life of a certain family, and witnesses something horrible that turns her life upside down.

The confusing plot of the film was reportedly one of the reasons why the movie needed a reshoot, which delayed its release by almost two years. In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Joe Wright said, “There were some plot points that people found a bit confusing — I would say possibly too opaque maybe. So, we had to go back and clarify certain points.”

The filmmaker however stressed that they didn’t try to “oversimplify anything and make things too clear”. “There's an enjoyment in not knowing what's going on, but at the same time, you have to give the audience something to hold on to — you have to lead them through the labyrinth of mystery and fear,” he said.

The Woman in the Window also stars Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry and Jennifer Jason Leigh in pivotal roles.
