The actor plays the role of a homemaker-turned-entrepreneur in the upcoming TVF series.
Amruta Subhash has made a name for herself as a strong actor in movies like Gully Boy but it has taken her decades in the business to land her first project as the lead. She claims that the fact that she was cast as the lead character in Zee 5's Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt Ltd is sort of proof that women can land important roles well into their 40s.
Amruta told Mid Day that at this stage of her career, being a protagonist is strong. It's wonderful to play a role in a narrative that centres around her. She shared that actors worry about how they look and wonder if they will have the chance to perform the lead roles. But regardless of who they are, their story can still be told. It doesn't matter what colour or size you are; it's irrelevant and only honesty is required.
Subhash portrays a housewife, a role that, in her opinion, she cannot genuinely identify with. As Amruta, she has more freedom and has never had to confront the kinds of difficulties this character does. But she admires and values housewives. The bond between a daughter and her mother-in-law is frequently stereotyped, but seeing this particular relationship on this show was liberating.
The actor added that in the series, her mother-in-law is also her business partner, so there is humour in their relationship.
While talking to Firstpost, Amruta said that she is incredibly appreciative of OTT and Zee5 for supporting these lovely stories. The show will be available in every home thanks to Zee5. Since many people informed her that the pairing of her and TVF would be a treat for them, she is grateful to TVF, who has a separate fanbase. Theater is still her first love, but she's thankful to the OTT movement, which got its start in India, for providing her the chance to represent these various roles.
