Ayesha Takia went on to play the female lead in Wanted.
The movie business can be a cruel environment, especially for creatives who are naturally trusting. Amrita Rao painfully uncovered this truth in 2007. She made a guest cameo in the Heyy Babyy theme song and made her successful Telugu cinema debut the same year with Athidhi. Not to mention her prior, enormous Bollywood hits. Amrita had no idea, though, that a much better chance had been taken from her without her knowledge.
In the book she wrote with her husband, RJ Anmol, called Couple of Things Amrita wrote about an event from 2007. The actor was astonished to learn that she may have been Salman Khan's co-star, if not for a betrayal.
An extract from Couple of Things in which she describes the frightening event, is provided by ETimes.
The actor recalled that 2007 got off to a strong start. She was getting roped in for enticing projects, one of which was Welcome to Sajjanpur by Shyam Benegal. Nevertheless, Amrita began to believe that her manager, whom Tips Films had hired in 2002 and with whom she was still working, wasn't the best fit for her further professional development. The actor decided to stop working with him and look for a more experienced and senior manager who could help her find better prospects, build strong networks, and improve her PR efforts with the media and production companies.
Amrita invited her manager to her house for a talk. She gently explained why she was doing what she was doing, and they parted on good terms. Although quite young, he handled the entire issue alone with great elegance and courtesy. A few months later, Amrita was in Hyderabad, working with Mahesh Babu on a Telugu film. One evening after the filming, she ran into a production worker who frequently collaborated with Boney Kapoor in the foyer of her hotel, the Taj Banjara.
The production worker told Amrita that she would have been filming for them with Salman Khan for Wanted if only her dates hadn't conflicted. The actor gave him a blank stare. She was perplexed and enquired, as this was the first time she heard about Wanted.
He said that she was considered, and her manager was called. However, he stated Amrita's dates weren't going to work. The actor was absolutely destroyed, and her heart was in tatters.
If only she had known, she would have definitely worked out the dates for them. She answered, still stunned that he hadn't told her about such an important offer. Amrita's former manager had made the choice to send her this retaliatory parting gift rather than accept their breakup amicably.
It would have been fascinating to watch Amrita and Salman together in the action blockbuster Wanted. It's unfortunate how things turned out.
