Amazon Prime Video which forayed into the Telugu market with the web show Gangstars a few years ago is gearing up for the release of its first Telugu original titled Ammu. The project, which was formally announced earlier this year, features Aishwarya Lekshmi, Naveen Chandra, Simha in the lead roles. Written and directed by Charukesh Sekar, Ammu is a thriller produced by Kalyan Subramanian and Kaarthekeyen Santhanam under Stone Bench Films. Jigarthanda director Karthik Subbaraj is the creative producer.

The makers claim Ammu is a powerful story of a woman who confronts her adversities with strength. In the teaser released earlier this week, Aishwarya Lekshmi is introduced as Ammu - she is like any other girl next door, who has high expectations from her life partner and talks of her parents' enthusiasm to find a match for her. However, her story takes a turn for the worse after tying the knot, being a victim of domestic abuse. How does she counter this challenge? Ammu releases on Amazon Prime on October 19.

Ammu traces the story of the titular character that falls prey to domestic violence, rises above her internal conflicts to teach her abusive husband a lesson. Apart from Telugu, Amazon Prime Video subscribers can stream the film in Telugu in addition to Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages in 240 countries and territories. Karthik Subbaraj, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Kiranraj, Tharun Bhascker, Sai Pallavi, Manju Warrier and Samyuktha Hegde announced the film's premiere date yesterday.

Karthik Subbaraj asserts that Ammu isn't a redemption thriller and assures it has solid drama, capturing the unpredictability of life. The filmmaker says audiences will certainly appreciate the performances of its lead actors and also its gripping narrative with a strong emotional core. Aparna Purohit, head of India Originals, Prime Video, says Ammu is an important story throwing light on the inner strength of women.
