Amitabh Bachchan.
Remember Shoojit Sircar’s iconic movie Piku, starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role? This film is one of the most cherished projects of Bollywood. Many movie buffs often desire that the two celebrities should work together again. Well, if you are one of those movie buffs, then your dream might see the light of the day. If a report is to be believed, Shoojit Sircar’s directorial Shoebite, which could not be released in 2012 due to legal woes, might be out soon.
Shoebite, an unreleased film, follows a man in his early 60s (played by Amitabh Bachchan). Based on M. Night Shyamalan's story, Labour of Love, the movie was directed by Shoojit Sircar and completed over a decade ago. However, it has been held back due to the lack of permission from Shyamalan. Despite the delay, a recent report suggests that Shoebite may finally be released.
According to a report published by Mid-Day today, Shoojit said, “We are trying hard to sort out things, but it's complicated. I hope it gets resolved, and we get to release it." A source informed the news outlet that the rights of the film are now with Disney and Fox. With this pivotal shift, the decision now rests with the makers regarding the mode of release – whether to opt for a traditional theatrical one or to release it on an OTT platform.
During the chat with the news portal, Shoojit insisted that Shoebite is a film that is very close to his heart. He further said that Amitabh Bachchan poured his heart and soul into the prime character of the film. “While Amitabh ji is known for his dialogue delivery, in Shoebite, however, he does not talk a lot,” said the filmmaker.
