Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan took a stroll down memory lane, while comparing how the yardstick of success of films has changed drastically with the advent of OTT platforms.

Sharing a throwback photo from the 70s, when he was part of superhits such as Don, Kasme Vaade, Trishul, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and Ganga Ki Saugandh the actor wrote on his Instagram, “The 1970’s… And the years when films did 50 weeks and 100 weeks... And 6-7 of them being released in the same year and all doing more than 50 weeks ...Now OTT millions make success graphs (sic).”

The irony, meanwhile, is that Bachchan’s film Gulabo Sitabo was the first direct-to-OTT Bollywood release in 2020. The Shoojit Sircar directorial, which also had Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, released on Amazon Prime Video instead of theatres due to the initial COVID-19 lockdown.

Moreover, Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull has created buzz since its release on Disney+ Hotstar last week. The film was also a direct-to-OTT release.

Big B is currently set to return as the host of the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati. On the movie front, he has filmmaker Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra that also has Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Nagraj Manjule’s Jhund Rumi Jaffrey’s Chehre and the Bollywood remake of The Intern with Deepika Padukone coming up.
