Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and others mourn the death of writer Prayag Raj

The 88-year-old writer Prayag Raj, who is known for evergreen films like 'Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Coolie’ succumbed to age-related illness

Besides the fact that the evergreen films like 'Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Coolie’, ‘Naseeb’ starred the one and only superstar Amitabh Bachchan, there was also one more point of commonality that binds these iconic films. The common factor to these films is in the form of the legendary writer Prayag Raj, who has to his credit writing for many films that eventually became superhits. The sad news is that the well-known writer Prayag Raj took his last breath yesterday. Reports state that the 88-year-old writer Prayag Raj succumbed to age-related illness.

As per a news report in PTI, the late writer’s son Aditya said that his father (Prayag Raj) passed away peacefully on Saturday at 4pm at his residence in Bandra. He also added that, he (Prayag Raj) had been suffering from multiple ailments since eight to ten years like heart disease and age-related issues. Actor Amitabh Bachchan took to social media (his personal blog) and offered his condolences for the late writer. He wrote, “Last evening we lost another pillar of our great film industry”.

On the other hand, Anil Kapoor also took to social media to write about the passing away of the writer. Anil Kapoor wrote a post, wherein he wrote, “I'm truly saddened by the loss of the late Prayag Raj. Working with him on 'Hifazat' was a privilege. May his soul rest in peace”.  He also posted an old photograph in which he (Anil Kapoor) is seated on a horse and is looking as if he was in conversation with the late writer Prayag Raj.

There was also the veteran actress Shabana Azmi who expressed her heartfelt sentiments at the passing away of Prayag Raj. She wrote, “Sorry to hear about the passing away of writer director actor Prayag Raj. RIP”. She also posted a photograph of Prayag Raj in her post.
