Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that his directorial debut gets its due attention. The first teaser of the Malayalam film, which has Asif Ali in the lead, is set to be released by two icons of Indian cinema – Amitabh Bachchan and AR Rahman.
Asif Ali shared the update on his social media page, with the caption, “Something very special is on your way.” The teaser will be released through the veteran superstar and ace composer’s social media handles at 7pm on Monday.
While the film had gone on floors only recently, the team had shot the teaser, featuring Asif Ali and Arjun Ashokan, last month. The movie also marks the return of Tamil actor Sathyaraj in Malayalam. Shobhana, Rohini, Indrans, Adil Hussain, Lena, Divya Dutta and Jaffer Idukki are also part of the cast of the movie, which is co-produced by Resul Pookutty. The sound designer’s brother Baiju and yesteryear actress Jalaja’s daughter Devi Nair will also be seen in pivotal roles.
Otta is based on the life of social worker S Hariharan, who runs the Mumbai-based NGO Children Reunited that helps rescue, rehabilitate and reunite runaway children with their parents. The film marks the directorial debut of Resul, who had a few years ago starred in the Malayalam movie The Sound Story that revolved around a sound engineer capturing the audioscape of Thrissur Pooram for the benefit of the visually impaired.
On making his directorial debut in Malayalam when there were rumours that he was in discussions with several leading actors in Bollywood, a source close to the award-winning sound designer told OTTplay that Resul believes Malayalam cinema is now getting pan-Indian attention and good content travels, irrespective of the language. The team will wrap up the first schedule of Otta by mid May and resume in October this year.
