Fans of Vikram and other movie buffs were in for a rude shock when news started doing the rounds that the actor suffered from a heart attack and has been rushed to a private hospital in Chennai today afternoon. However, his manager took to Twitter to confirm that the news is untrue and requested people to respect the actor's privacy.

He also added that contrary to the rumours that are doing the rounds, Vikram had only a mild chest discomfort and that he is likely to be discharged in a day's time.

The post read, "Dear fans and wellwishers, Chiyaan Vikram had mild chest discomfort and is being treated for the same. He DID NOT have a heart attack as reports falsely claim. We are pained to hear rumours to this effect (sic)."

After a while, the hospital, too, issued a release which mentioned that the actor was admitted there following complaints of chest discomfort. The release read, "He was evaluated and treated by our team of specialist doctors. He did not have cardiac arrest, is currently clinically stable and will be discharged from the hospital soon."

The clarification post from the actor's manager and hospital made his fans breathe a sigh of relief. However, many of his ardent admirers who were expecting him to attend the teaser launch of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan will be disappointed. The actor plays Aditya Karikalan, one of the significant characters in the novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy many decades ago.

Vikram's next release, however, is Ajay Gnanamuthu's Cobra which will hit the screens on August 11. The revenge thriller will mark the actor's return to the silver screen after a three-year hiatus. His last outing Mahaan had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year.
