Superstar Rajinikanth touching Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's feet has sparked massive outrage on the internet. The incident occurred on Saturday at the CM's Lucknow residence when Rajinikanth arrived with his wife Latha to watch the special screening of his latest blockbuster Jailer .

The video showing Rajinikanth bowing down to touch the feet of the CM for blessings has gone viral, receiving mixed reactions on social media. The internet remains divided on the issue, with some arguing that Rajinikanth's gesture is a reflection of his personal beliefs and values. On the other hand, many have expressed shock over the incident, questioning the rationale behind Rajinikanth, aged 72, touching the feet of Yogi Adityanath, aged 52.

The netizens were quick to draw comparisons to a scene from Kaala. In the 2018 movie, which was written and directed by Pa Ranjith, Rajinikanth's Kaala refuses to allow a young girl to touch his feet, emphasizing equality by requesting a simple "namaste." The scene is at the centre of the raging debate as social media users draw parallels between the on-screen attitude and the real-world incident.

The incident has also sparked a debate about the feet-touching culture and its implications. Many have pointed out that Rajinikanth is a deeply spiritual person, and it's in his practice to greet others in this way.

Rajinikanth took off to a spiritual retreat to the Himalayas on the eve of the release of his most-awaited movie Jailer. While the movie spread like wildfire across the world at the box office and shattered several collection records of previous Tamil blockbusters, Rajinikanth spent the last 10 days visiting temples, talking to spiritual gurus and devotees and meditating in caves.

Jailer has become a box office behemoth with over Rs 400 crore collection in its worldwide ticket sales. The movie remains bullish across the cinemas and the trade is predicting that it will push the bar higher for Tamil cinema at the box office.

Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer is bankrolled by Sun Pictures.
