Amaran Day 1 box office: Sivakarthikeyan’s first biopic mints big numbers

Sivakarthikeyan headlined his first biopic film Amaran, which is based on late Major Mukund Varadarajan's life. The film released in theatres for Diwali on October 31, and has opened to positive response among the audience. As per the official statement released by the makers, Amaran has collected Rs 42.3 crore (gross) on the first day, worldwide. The film is expected to get picked up during the incoming weekend.

Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran Day 1 box office

Sivakarthikeyan joined hands with director Rajkumar Periyasamy for a film titled Amaran. The film stars Sai Pallavi as the female lead. Amaran is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his operation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion.

Amaran released in theatres on October 31, and opened to a positive word of mouth. Amaran has collected Rs 42.3 crore (gross) on the first day, worldwide. As per a Sacnilk report, the film had an occupancy of over 70%, which is expected to get picked up over the weekend. Amaran is produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International.

The film is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and marks the first time Sivakarthikeyan is working with Sai Pallavi. Actors Rahul Bose, Geetha Kailasam, and others appearing in supporting characters.

While Sivakarthikeyan played Major Mukund, Sai Pallavi essayed the role of his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film traces their love story, as well as Mukund’s career as army man till his untimely death during one of his assignments.

Amaran opened to positive responses upon its release, with critics praising the lead actors’ performances. “Amaran clearly aims to put Mukund Varadarajan’s life in focus, by talking about his work and the people in his life. With Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi at the fore delivering powerful performances, the beauty of Amaran is that it never wishes to be a heavy viewing. It is a film that carries all core emotions, and even some painful ones, yet manages to be light with its clean screenplay and subtle performances,” reads OTTplay review of the film.

The film’s post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix. The technical crew consists of cinematography by Ch Sai, with R Kalaivanan as the editor. GV Prakash Kumar is scoring the music for the film.
