Imtiaz Ali's film Amar Singh Chamkila is one of the most awaited OTT releases of April. It features Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role while Parineeti Chopra plays the role of his wife, Amarjot Kaur. The movie, which is based on the life of famous Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, is headed for a digital release on Netflix. Ahead of that, filmmaker Imtiaz has admitted that he was initially unsure of casting Diljit Dosanjh in the film. Wondering why? Let's find out...
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Imtiaz Ali said when he watches Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra together or separately, he feels that there could be nobody who could play Chamkila or Amarjot except for these actors.
However, the filmmaker admitted, "I wasn’t sure whether it’s gonna work out with Diljit for some reason. I thought he might not be able to do it, etc. So I didn’t approach him in the beginning, but it’s a little later that I did, the moment I spoke to him, it was just like a different chapter." And now, Imtiaz actually can't imagine anybody else playing the lead character in his film.

When Imtiaz was asked why his film Amar Singh Chamkila is not releasing in theatres, the filmmaker said one must try the new things that come the way (referring to OTT platforms).
The director added that he is a big cinema watcher. When he closes his eyes and thinks about a film, he always imagines myself on the big screen in a theatre and watching the big screen. However, Imtiaz added that it wouldn't be a bad thing for a film that he made for the OTT platform.
Imtiaz's Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, will drop on April 12 on Netflix. The music of the film has been composed by AR Rahman. How excited are you about watching this movie? Tweet @ottplayapp and share your thoughts.
