Anjum Batra played the role of Kesar Singh Tikki in Amar Singh Chamkila. Here's what the real-life Tikki's daughter messaged Anjum after watching Imtiaz Ali's film.
Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, has received a stupendous response from critics, celebrities and audiences. The Imtiaz Ali directorial dropped on Netflix on April 12, 2024. Ever since team Amar Singh Chamkila has been only receiving praises and compliments. In the late legendary singer Amar Singh Chamkila's biopic, Anjum Batra essayed the role of Kesar Singh Tikki, the musician's close friend. In a recent interview with a tabloid, Anjun revealed how real-life Tikki's daughter reacted after watching him in the OTT film.
Speaking with Mid-Day, Anjum Batra said that he regrets not getting a chance to meet Kesar Singh Tikki in real life while Amar Singh Chamkila was being filmed. It is because Tikki passed away in January 2024. However, he received a wonderful text message from Tikki's daughter after she watched Imtiaz Ali's film, starring him, Diljit and Parineeti.
"But his daughter texted me three days ago after watching the film, saying, ‘You look just like my dad.’ The family has invited me to their home in Ludhiana; I’ll meet them soon. They also sent me old pictures of Tikki sir and Chamkila ji," Batra told the tabloid.

Before Amar Singh Chamkila's shoot began, Anjum Batra prepared for his character. The actor gained weight and tried to match Kesar Singh Tikki's look for the Imtiaz Ali directorial. Since the filmmaker had interacted with Tikki when he was alive, Imtiaz knew exactly how the character had to be played.
"He is the kind of director who fills you with so much material that you know the man [you have to play], and the performance just comes out when the camera rolls," added Anjum.
Helmed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila starred Diljit in the titular role whereas Parineeti Chopra played the role of his on-screen wife, Amarjot Kaur. The film is the biopic of the late Punjabi singer Chamkila, who was killed along with his wife Amarjot in 1988.
