Amar Singh Chamkila – a film based on the life of a Punjabi singer of the same name, was released on Netflix on April 12. Starring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, this film earned immense praise from critics globally. Imtiaz Ali is the director of the film, while Parineeti Chopra played Diljit Dosanjh’s love interest in it. For the last four days, the film has been successfully running on the streamer. Here is what Amar Singh Chamkila actor Anjum Batra has to say about the film.
In a chat with India Today, Anjum Batra, who played Kesar Singh Tikki in Amar Singh Chamkila, said, “Diljit paaji performs between action and cut and then instantly goes back to chanting Wahe Guru and Om Namay Shivaay. I think he is constantly in a state of meditation and has a divine connection with the almighty all the time. Ek roohani taar hai unke beech (They have a thread connecting them).”
Later, Batra outlined that Imtiaz Ali is an incredibly kind person to work with. He believes that both Dosanjh and Ali are loved by God. He is glad that he got a chance to work with them. Furthermore, Batra said that Chopra was the ‘sweetest girl’ on the film’s sets.
As per Netflix, Amar Singh Chamkila is the story of a humble singer whose brash lyrics ignite fame and fury across Punjab. Later, he grapples with soaring success and brutal criticism before his untimely death.
With the film, audiences experience the magic of a collaboration between AR Rahman, Imtiaz, and Irshad, with Rahman composing the music and Irshad writing the lyrics for the film. The songs Ishq Mitaye and Naram Kaalja have been topping the charts since their release earlier this month. Excitingly, Diljit and Parineeti have also contributed their voices to some original Chamkila songs in Punjabi.
