Actress Amala Paul is back in Malayalam, after a gap of five years since her last release Achayans, through Athiran director Vivek’s next titled The Teacher. The actress plays the central character in the film, which also has Chemban Vinod Jose and Hakkim Shajahan in pivotal roles.
The movie, which is co-scripted by Take Off writer PV Shajikumar and Vivek, went on floors in Kollam on Wednesday. The Teacher also has Prashanth Murali, Nandu, Anumol, Manju Pillai and Maala Parvathi in pivotal roles.
The Teacher marks Vivek’s second directorial after the 2019 psychological thriller Athiran, which had Fahadh Faasil, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj in the lead. The first day of the shoot had Amala Paul’s portions with Hakkim, who was last seen in Aishwarya Lekshmi’s Archana 31 Not Out. Anu Moothedath cranks the camera for the movie, which has music composed by Don Vincent.
Amala, meanwhile, is also part of Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer Aadujeevitham, which is directed by Blessy. The actress plays the wife of the central character Najeeb and had shot a few of her portions in 2019.
Since the pandemic, she has been part of two anthologies – Kutty Story and Pitta Kathalu, which is streaming on Netflix. The actress also has Cadaver coming up, which marks her debut production. The Tamil-Telugu bilingual is a forensic investigative thriller, scripted by Malayalam writers Abhilash Pillai and Anoop Panicker. Abhilash has also penned the screenplays for M Padmakumar’s Pathaam Valavu and Vysakh’s Night Drive.
Amala plays a chief police surgeon named Dr Bhadra in Cadaver, who uses her deductive methods to solve cases. The movie has drawn inspiration from former Kerala police forensic expert Dr B Umadathan’s book Oru Police Surgeonte Ormakurippukal. The movie, which has music by Jakes Bejoy, also has Harish Uthaman, Athulya and Ramesh Khanna as part of its cast.
