The teaser of the movie, which has Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in the lead, has already racked up 3.1 million views within 16 hours of its release
Premam director Alphonse Puthren’s first film in seven years – Gold – has already created ripples, within hours of its teaser’s release on Tuesday. The teaser, which gave us a glimpse of the characters played by Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara, has already created a record for being one of the most-watched Malayalam teasers within 24 hours.
The teaser, which was two minutes and 32 seconds long, revealed the names of the characters played by Prithviraj, Nayanthara, Justin John, MA Shiyas and Faisal Muhammed. It only showed Prithviraj’s Joshi walking in slow motion towards a pickup that was reversing outside his house, and then kicking one of them.
In reply to a fan’s question that the teaser didn’t reveal anything about the film’s story, Alphonse replied that this was the fourth version of the teaser that he had put out. “I tried other trailer edit styles by telling the story. But that won’t tease you,” the Premam filmmaker wrote.
The teaser is apparently the second most viewed Malayalam teaser after Oru Adaar Love, which got 4.68 million views in 24 hours. It overtook the teasers of Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam and Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup that got 2.9 million and 2.7 millions, respectively, according to reports.
The film, which has Nayanthara playing the role of Sumangali Unnikrishnan, also has a stellar cast including Roshan Mathew, Chemban Vinod Jose, Deepti Sati, Shabareesh Varma, Krishna Sankar, Lalu Alex, Jaffer Idukki, Shanti Krishna, Vinay Forrt, Baburaj, Jagadeesh and Mallika Sukumaran.
Ajmal Ameer, who is also part of the film, had earlier told us that Gold belongs to a unique genre. “We would have seen similar films made in Hollywood, but it’s the first time that such a film is being released in Malayalam,” said the actor, adding that it’s a full-on fun movie that could be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
The movie’s teaser will also be playing in theatres in Kerala from March 25, hinting that the film will be a theatrical release. Gold is co-produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames.
