Mohanlal's Alone is set against the backdrop of Covid-induced lockdown.
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's previous movie Alone is set to make its debut on OTT. The one-actor movie will be made available for streaming on Disney+Hotstar on March 3. However, the exact time when the film will release on the OTT is not revealed yet.
Director Shaji Kailas has helmed the movie from a script written by Rajesh Jayaraman. The movie is set against the Covid-induced lockdown. Mohanlal plays the role of a motivational speaker named Kalidas. He travels to an apartment in Kochi to spend time alone and stay safe from a raging viral infection. However, things get spooky when Kalidas begins to hear the voices of the previous occupants of the apartment. A curious Kalidas vows to find out what happened in the house before he moved in. Soon he finds out that the tenants before him had committed suicide. And the plot thickens when Kalidas decides to avenge the deaths of the total strangers.
Running about 2 hours, Alone fully depends on Mohanlal's acting talent to hold the attention of the audience from the beginning to the end. Alone was released in cinemas on January 26 to mostly negative reviews. Not just critics, the movie was also panned by the audience. The movie was further dominated by the release of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan. The Bollywood movie took a massive opening and became a top choice for the movies goers in Kerala, undercutting the box office potential of Alone. With bad reviews, poor word of mouth and the onslaught of Pathaan, the Mohanlal-starrer didn't have much of a shot at success. Alone tanked at the box office.
