The show offers us something that we’ve never seen before from the world of IIT Kharagpur.
From the advanced exterior charms to the chaotic inner realms, Netflix’s Alma Matters: Inside the IIT Dream will be showcasing the reality of the students in IIT Kharagpur. Releasing on May 14, the three-part docu-series is directed by Prashant Raj, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur.
The filmmaker went to the campus, more than a decade after his graduation, with his team to capture the lesser-known realities of the students. Prashant stayed there for over a year to document his series that wrapped up production in February 2019.
Talking about his experience of being an IIT graduate, Prashant had earlier told Indian Express, “It was the best thing that happened to me. I could have used my time there better. Almost every average IIT grad would say that. I learnt the process of learning there.”
Some of the members from his team had also studied in IIT-K including co-director Pratik Patra, who dropped out. So, making a documentary on IIT was kind of obvious to them, he said.
Comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath, who was also shown in the Alma Matters’ official trailer, talks about his personal experience related to IIT-K. The trailer also features the frustrations and difficulties that IITians face on the campus and promises to show the audience a side of IIT that very few have seen.
