Reportedly Sanjay Leela Bhansali is okay to wait till theatres open up, to release Gangubai Kathiawadi.
The news about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi releasing on OTT has been making rounds on the internet for a long time. However, recent reports suggest that the Alia Bhatt starrer might release in theatres and not OTT.
A source told SpotboyE that the filmmaker is keen to release his movie in theatres because of the ‘scale and size of the visuals and emotions’. “These cannot be relocated to the OTT platform at any cost,” the source said. The source stressed that SLB would rather wait it out than release the film on an OTT platform.
The makers of Gangubai Kathiawadi had released a teaser of the film. Back then, they had announced that the film would release on July 30, 2021.
However, with theatres still shut and the news about Sanjay not willing to opt for an OTT release, it looks like the film will face further delay in its release. Gangubai Kathiawadi is a story adapted from S. Hussain Zaidi’s book named ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai.’
The film is the journey of a young and helpless girl Gangu who grows up to become the matriarch of Kamathipura - Gangubai. Of course, Alia plays the role of Gangubai.
Gangubai Kathiawadi was originally slated to release in 2021 and the release date of the film will depend on the reopening of theatres and multiplexes.
