Alia Bhatt-Vicky Kaushal starrer Raazi lands in trouble!

It is not a secret that Raazi – a film based on Harinder Singh Sikka's 2008 novel Calling Sehmat – emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films in 2018 featuring a female protagonist. The movie was directed by Meghna Gulzar and featured Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles.

What is the controversy around the film?

However, to much surprise, author Harinder Singh Sikka is not satisfied with the presentation of the movie. Addressing an event recently, Harinder expressed his anguish towards the ‘Raazi’ makers and said, “I am deeply pained because it took me as many as eight years to write the book and they distorted my story in the film Raazi.”

“Ek badi durgathna hui mere saath. Raazi main jab Sehmat wapis aati hai... tab agar aap calling Sehmat padhenge... toh Sehmat Tirange ko salute karti hai. Raazi main koi tiranga nahi dikhaya gaya. Sehmat ko depression main dikhaya gaya. Pakistan ke flags dikhaye gaye aur Indian intelligence ko neeche dikhaya gaya. Yeh leftist approach ke khilaaf itni safai se kaam hua hai. Mujhe puchiye dard kya hota hai.

(I am deeply disturbed. In the film Raazi, recall the last scene when Sehmat returns to India. In the book, Sehmat is portrayed as a strong character who salutes the nation after her task is accomplished. However, in the movie, Sehmat does not salute the Indian National Flag. Instead, Pakistan’s flags were shown in the last scene and Indian intelligence officers were shown in poor condition. I do not approve of this leftist approach. Ask me, what it means to be pained!)

Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, and the team of Raazi is yet to respond to the development.
