Alia Bhatt discusses nepotism and how her mother had trouble making it as a actor in the industry.
Alia Bhatt ranks among the most versatile actors in the movie business. With films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Darlings, Gully Boy, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, and many more, the actress is riding high on success. She also recently won the Best Actress honor at the 69th National Film Awards for her amazing performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Besides these, Alia's name has frequently been associated with the word 'nepotism,' by being born into a cinematic family. Her mother Soni Razdan is a celebrated actress, and her father Mahesh Bhatt is a well-known filmmaker. The actress recently opened about how her mother struggled as an actor and nepotism.
Alia Bhatt on being privileged and her mother's struggle
Although Alia Bhatt had previously been the subject of the nepotism controversy, she has now admitted that she was initially unaware of her privileges and that, despite being the wife of a director and producer, her mother struggled with her throughout her career as an actress. She acknowledged knowing that her family worked in the film industry in an interview with InStyle Australia, adding, “So I naturally was also more inclined towards it, but it’s not like my father ever spoke to me like, ‘Oh, the day you want to act, we will give you this movie.’ He never brought that up. Never."
She added that her mother struggled as an actor. Despite being married to a director and producer, she felt like she wasn't getting enough acting work and was always looking for more, revealed Alia.

The actress also said she worked very hard to get where she is, but she also acknowledged that having ties to the industry made things simpler for her in certain ways than for those who don't. Alia said: “My initial response to it (nepotism) was very defensive because I just felt like, you know, I work hard, so why the question? But I think with time and with age, you realise that there’s a lot of struggle in the world and there is a case to be made in acknowledging the headstart and acknowledging I had an easier path to get into the room."
