The spy thriller also features Jamie Dornan as the male lead.
Alia Bhatt has joined Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in Netflix's international spy thriller Heart of Stone marking her English-language debut in a major studio film. The film is directed by Tom Harper and written by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance, as well as Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird, and Gadot and Jaron Varsano of Pilot Wave, are producing. Executive producers are Harper, Rucka, and Patty Whitcher.
As per Deadline, the plot is being kept under wraps. Netflix has made Heart of Stone a top priority since winning the competitive auction for the project in January 2021. Skydance had packaged the IP and put it on the market, with a number of interested parties bidding for the rights.
Bhatt makes her global debut in the film after dominating the Bollywood scene as one of India's biggest stars, including four Filmfare Awards. Her most recent film, Gangubai Kathiawadi had the third-largest opening weekend in Bollywood history, as well as the biggest non-holiday opening for a Bollywood film since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Gully Boy premiered at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival and was India's submission for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars.
Meanwhile, Bhatt will next be seen in SS Rajamouli's RRR alongside Jr NTR and Ram Charan. The film is set to hit the screens in April this year after much delay. The actor is also a part of Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra which marks her first outing with beau and actor Ranbir Kapoor. The fantasy drama, also starring Amitabh Bachchan, is slated for release on September 11, 2022.
Bhatt is reuniting with her debut director Karan Johar for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani also featuring Ranveer Singh in the titular role. The film is set to be a 2023 release.
