‘Akshaya Tritiya’ holds great importance to me and my family...
As someone who was born and raised in a Hindu Punjabi family, ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ holds great importance to me. My upbringing taught me to be a giver. Although every day is a great day to give and spread happiness... yet, every culture has some days which are more auspicious to do certain things like to donate and buy valuables. ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ is one such auspicious day for me.

Since the past few years, I've gotten more into spirituality...
I have celebrated this festival of ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ since childhood as I had seen my parents do the same. But in all honesty, I never took the day too seriously while growing up. I always looked at it as just another day. But since the past few years, I've gotten more into spirituality and began to understand how and why certain days hold more importance than the others and therefore its been 3 years since I have been performing pooja on the day and have started taking it more seriously.
This is how I am planning to celebrate ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ this year...
The day will start with a small ‘yagna’, followed by the distribution of prasad and a visit to a hospital in Mumbai to meet the patients suffering from Blood Cancer and Thalassemia as my NGO Datri works extensively for people suffering from Blood cancer and other blood disorders.
I am someone who lives in the present and I like to enjoy what's there now...
I am someone who lives in the present and I like to enjoy what's there now and work on things that I have control over. And the future is what I have control over. So, I will make sure to make this ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ the most memorable one for me.
Youngsters are more excited about Halloween than ‘Akshaya Tritiya’...
I think that over the years, the spirit and concept of ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ has certainly changed. With people moving and embracing the western culture, today’s youngsters are more excited about Halloween than ‘Akshaya Tritiya’. It's high time we study, understand and start to value our culture. The more I've connected with our culture, I figured that every day that we celebrate holds a special meaning and a deep-rooted reason/science behind it.

Just like any other mother, my mother too buys gold the entire year
It's my mother who does the buying gold part for all of us for the day of ‘Akshaya Tritiya’. But honestly, just like any other mother, she too buys gold the entire year, but ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ gives another good reason to get some gold home. Ultimately, no amount of gold is too much gold for mothers (laughs).
I am not as well versed with the traditional mantra during ‘Akshaya Tritiya’, but...
I am not as well versed with the traditional mantra during ‘Akshaya Tritiya’. That’s why we will have our family guru/ pandit ji do the ‘havan’ and pooja for us.
My dress code for ‘Akshaya Tritiya’...
I had picked up a white kurta from designer Abhinav Mishra on my last trip to Delhi. I always wanted to get a kurta with mirrors and there's nobody better than Abhinav for an attire like that. I am looking forward to style it this ‘Akshaya Tritiya’.
I like to connect with people one-on-one over great food...
I am not a very party person honestly. I like to connect with people one-on-one over great food. I believe that develops a deeper connection and understanding between two people. So, I am definitely sticking to my Kurta the entire day rather than slipping into something western in the due course of the day.
THESE people are the REAL GOLD of my life...
I think I am very blessed. Touch wood to that! Every member of my family and my spiritual guru, I consider GOLD in my life, but the number definitely exceeds 3. Also, there are a few people who tried to push me down and demotivate me while I was growing up, so maybe I'd also like to give them a status of 'partial gold'. Had it not been the case, maybe I wouldn't be the person I am today. And I am proud of how I've evolved over the years. Touch wood to that also! (smiles)
I have a major sweet tooth...
I have a major sweet tooth and it's one of the most difficult bit for me to cut on my sugar. Having said that, I plan to go all out on ‘Sheer Korma’ and will skip other Indian desserts (laughs), since ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ and Eid are falling on the same day this year.
On the professional front...
I am finishing the last schedule of my Malayalam film 'Bandra' where I am enjoying working with my co-actors Dileep, Tamannaah Bhatia and Dino Morea.
My wishes to all the readers and to the entire OTTplay team...
I would like to take this opportunity to wish a very happy and prosperous ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ and ‘Eid Mubarak’ to all the OTTplay team and readers.
