Cuttputlli stars Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead.
Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Cuttputtli has caught people’s attention for various reasons. His cop avatar Sooryavanshi sure was a high point but it was also the story that has left fans intrigued. What left the actor intrigued was his preparation process, where he ended up having a wall full of criminal information.
Akshay’s character in the film Arjan Sethi wants every single detail about the world of crime and serial killing. Thus, it is no surprise that the preparation required something extreme too. So, the house in the film was constructed in a way that it had the biggest crimes and criminal cases on the walls.
Director Ranjit M Tewari said in a media statement, “We thought, what can we do that is not subtle but impactful for him? So we just dressed up the entire wall with newspaper cuttings and photographers of real people, so that he gets a feel to it while shooting, that he has lived this life, that he has been part of this life.”
Three of the cases that were researched in-depth included Ted Bundy, Seema Gavit and Cyanide Mohan. Since Arjan is more closely associated with serial killing, these criminal cases are what he studies closely.
Akshay was so happy with the kind of detailing that went into the foundation that he jumped onto the film almost immediately. “The art department, production designers and ADs, we all came together and we decided to find the real images and real newspaper articles,” Ranjit revealed.
Akshay plays the role of a Pollywood (Punjabi film industry) filmmaker who has researched on crime for nearly 10 years. The movie stars Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead.
Cuttputlli marks Akshay’s next collaboration with Ranjit and Pooja Entertainment after BellBottom. The movie is touted to be the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film Ratsasan and will have a direct-to-OTT release on Disney+Hotstar on September 2.
