Amid OMG 2 teaser launch, Akshay Kumar's old comment about “wasting oil and milk on Gods" has created a stir on social media.
The teaser of Akshay Kumar's upcoming film OMG 2: Oh My God! has been released and it has created a lot of buzz among the fans. The film is a sequel to the 2012 hit OMG: Oh My God! which was a satire on religious superstitions and rituals.
However, some netizens have also dug up an old video of Akshay Kumar where he had expressed his views on wasting oil and milk on gods. In the video, Akshay had said that he does not believe in pouring oil and milk on idols of gods as it is a waste of resources and money.
Akshay says in the old interview with Marathi news channel ABP Majha: “Why are you wasting so much of oil and milk on God. Where is it written that God says, ‘Mujhe doodh dena and Hanuman saying mere ko tel daal.’ I don’t understand why people are wasting so much. At the same time we say that farmers are dying due to less food and money, so give it to them instead. I go to temples and there’s so much of waste."
Akshay Kumar had also added that he believes in god but not in rituals that are harmful to the environment or society. He had said, "I believe in god. I believe in doing good deeds. I believe in helping others. But I don't believe in rituals that are not logical or sensible."
The video has gone viral on social media after the teaser of OMG 2: Oh My God! was released. Some people have praised Akshay Kumar for his rational views while others have criticized him for hurting religious sentiments.
OMG 2: Oh My God! is directed by Amit Rai and also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam. It is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 11. The movie's release date has been set, indicating that it will compete with Sunny Deol's Gadar 2.
