Akshay Kumar's Bell Bottom is likely to be sold to either Amazon Prime Video or Disney+Hotstar.
Last year, Akshay Kumar was among the first superstars to start the trend of direct-to-OTT film releases. With the current lockdown, it appears that the actor will continue this. According to a recent report, Akshay has approached Disney+ Hotstar to sell the rights of his upcoming film Bell Bottom.
“After multiple rounds of internal discussions, Bell Bottom team has initiated conversation with the digital giant Disney+ Hotstar for a digital premiere,” Pinkvilla quoted a source. Interestingly, his 2020 release Laxmmi also streamed on Hotstar directly.
The makers of Bell Bottom were reportedly in talks with Amazon Prime Video before approaching Hotstar. “While Amazon has made an offer of around Rs 125 crore plus to the film, the makers are expecting something in the vicinity of Rs 150 crore. They have now gone to Disney+ Hotstar and the final rounds discussions are going on at the moment,” the source was quoted as saying, adding that the final call on the mode of release and platform will be taken in a fortnight.
Recently, Salman Khan had announced that his much-awaited Eid release Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai will be releasing simultaneously in theatres, OTT and TV on May 8. The film will be available to stream on Zee5’s pay per view service, ZeePlex.
Meanwhile, the release of Akshay’s film Sooryavanshi is currently stalled as the makers are keen on releasing the film in theatres but the platform remains shut owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent lockdown. The movie was slated to release in Diwali 2020, but no new release date has been announced since then.
