Even before the release of Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar’s big budget period film Samrat Prithviraj, several countries have reportedly taken a stand against it. The movie, which is based on the life of king Prithviraj Chauhan, will reportedly not be screened in Kuwait and Oman, according to reports.
A report by Bollywood Hungama quoted a trade source, saying that the film, which revolves around the life and battles of the last Hindu king, has been banned in international markets such as Kuawait and Oman.
The source told the portal that it is unfortunate that a film that shows that Indians stood up and defended the country against merciless invaders has been banned n these counties. “Why can’t people take a look at history and accept what happened to India and Hindus,” the trade source was quotes as saying.
Akshay Kumar, who plays the lead actor in the movie, in a recent interview stirred up another controversy with his comments about history textbooks not having anything mentioned about India’s culture and kings. “We should know about Mughals but know about our kings also. They were great too,” he said, adding that he would like to appeal to the Minister of Education to include more information about Hindu kings in the history textbooks.
The actor’s statement didn’t go down well, with many pointing out the number of chapters dedicated to the Indian kings and also why it was a misinformed comment, considering that the Rajput king’s reign ended in 1192 while the Mughal Empire’s reign in Indian began only in 1526.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had recently watched Samrat Prithviraj at a screening held in Delhi and praised the movie, saying that the “film depicts Indian culture of respecting and empowering women”. Samrat Prithviraj also has Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt and Ashutosh Rana as part of the cast.
