Who says box-office clashes should be avoided to prevent their likely effect on movies’ earnings? Well, times have changed now and for the better. Recently, Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 clashed with Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 at the box office on August 11. Contrary to popular belief, both movies together have minted over Rs 280 crores across India.
Of the Rs 280 crores, Rs 200 crores are minted by Gadar 2 alone, while a little over Rs 80 crores have been minted by OMG 2. Clearly, this is a great feat, especially after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
To put a green tick on this news development, superstar Akshay Kumar today appreciated theatrical performances of both Gadar 2 and OMG 2. In a tweet today, Akshay Kumar sweetly wrote, “A big thank you to our audiences for all the love for #OhMyGadar and for giving us the greatest week in Indian Film History! प्यार और आभार #Gadar2 in cinemas #OMG2 in cinemas.”
Soon after Akshay Kumar dropped this post on Twitter, it earned likes from thousands of netizens. “#AkshayKumar sir, your stardom, choice of script and hard work along with the talent of director Amit Rai, and brilliant actors - @TripathiiPankaj, @yamigautam gave a memorable blockbuster. Keep entertaining,” wrote a Twitter user in the comments section of the post.
Another Twitter user and an admirer of Akshay Kumar wrote, “Arey waah! What a gesture! I am proud of you Akki bro! And it was really good to see you singing that song on screen... it shows how we support and love each other within the fraternity. Bollywood was the biggest and will remain the biggest. Congratulations to you for the success against the storm.”
About OMG 2
As per a report published in The Indian Express today morning, OMG 2, starring Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Pankaj Tripathi, collected Rs 81.46 crore during its run till now. It is expected to cross Rs. 100 crore mark by this weekend.
About Gadar 2
Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is a patriotic movie and features Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in titular roles. So far, the earnings of the movie currently stand at Rs 263.48 crore and will soon cross Rs 300 crore.
