The Balakrishna, Pragya Jaiswal, Srikanth starrer directed by Boyapati Sreenu opened to a thunderous start at the theatres last weekend
The commercial success of Akhanda (that hit theatres on December 2), easily the biggest Telugu film to have released in 2021 post the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, has brought in a lot of cheer among the industry, theatre owners, distributors and fans of actor Balakrishna alike. The expectations were naturally huge for the third collaboration between the director-actor duo Boyapati Sreenu and Nandamuri Balakrishna (after Simha, Legend) and the result certainly lived up to the hype.
From Thaman's superb music score to the stellar action sequences, Balakrishna's dual avatar and power-packed dialogues, the masala potboiler was an audio-visual feast that had something for everyone. The film is breaking one record after the other across trade circles, registering career-best figures for Balakrishna in a few areas in India and international circuits.
The film, which earned approximately Rs 40 crores in India till Saturday, had a big Sunday as well, raking in Rs 13.20 crore, thereby taking its India tally to Rs 54.65 crore. The crowd occupancy stood at an impressive 62.34% on Sunday, reported Sacnilk.com. And that's not all. The victorious run of Akhanda in the US box office has caught everyone by surprise. Distributed by Radha Krishna Entertainments in USA, the film has already broke even and entered into the profit zone, collecting over $8,00,000 in its initial weekend. The film is expected to move past the $ 1 million mark shortly.
Miryala Ravinder Reddy, who bankrolled the film under Dwaraka Entertainments, left no stone unturned and gave a freehand to Boyapati with the making of Akhanda and the results are clearly showing. The hit has brought back Balakrishna and Boyapati's careers back on track, after a series of misfires. Pragya Jaiswal, Purnaa, Srikanth, Jagapathi Babu and others essayed crucial roles in the film as well.
